Current Research

Sleep has been linked with multiple health and mental health problems, though, the relationship between sleep issues and chronic pain, and its effects on cognitive health remain somewhat unexplored. My project will aim at shedding light on the extent of the consequences of sleep issues, such as insomnia, and chronic pain, such as musculoskeletal disorders, on cognitive processes and dysfunction. This will include the exploration of potential interventions to improve quality of life and perhaps delay the onset of cognitive decline.

Interests

Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology, with particular interest in sleep issues and cognitive health.

Understanding biopsychological and contextual risks for brain health and psychological well-being related to sleep issues and other health conditions.

Biography

Raphaela concluded her Forensic Psychology BSc Hons at Coventry University, where she found her passion for neuropsychology and mental health and well-being. The outcome of her undergraduate thesis on "The Impact of Stress, Anxiety and, Sleep Issues on Cognitive Flexibility" inspired her to follow a career in psychology research, conducting a study in "Thalamus: Sleep Status and Functional Connectivity in Passive and Active Tasks" during her time at University of Birmingham, where she completed her Psychology MSc degree. Raphaela is now pursuing a PhD study on the relationship between sleep, chronic pain, and accelerated brain aging/cognitive decline after securing a Psychology Department PhD Fellowship at the University of Warwick.
